Le premier a \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9 par le p\u00e8re des batteries au lithium-ion, l&rsquo;Am\u00e9ricain et prix Nobel de chimie, <\/span><a style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_B._Goodenough\">John B. Goodenough<\/a><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">, along with his team at the University of Texas in 1997, who notably identified lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) as a cathode for lithium-ion batteries. Two other patents were filed in the 2000s by Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec and the CNRS to enhance the conductivity and production of this battery's cathode. These global patents were offered for licensing by the company <\/span><a style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lifepo4ag.com\/\">LiFePO4+C<\/a><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">, a consortium including the University of Montreal, Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec, CNRS, and Johnson Matthey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This technology was ultimately abandoned by Western countries, South Korea, and Japan in favor of NMC, which offers a higher energy density (about 175 Wh\/kg for LFP compared to 245 Wh\/kg for NMC). At the same time, Chinese players, financially supported by their government, were the only ones to continue improving LFP, initially for the domestic market. LFP is now making a strong comeback globally, thanks to its significant advantages: its cost allows for more affordable entry-level electric vehicles, and its lifespan meets the needs of high-value industrial vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.circulacar.com\/en\/packs-batteries-lfp-48-96-400v\/\">LFP batteries<\/a><\/strong> are particularly recognized for their <strong>safety<\/strong> and <strong>longevity<\/strong>, largely due to their chemistry. Using lithium iron phosphate, <strong>phosphate de fer lithi\u00e9 (LiFePO4)<\/strong> for the cathode, they exhibit greater thermal stability than other lithium-ion batteries. Their critical temperature, at which self-heating begins, is significantly higher. This thermal stability arises from the specific chemistry of LFP, which does not release oxygen in the event of thermal runaway, thereby significantly reducing the risk of fire.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">According to <\/span><a style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ort.bourgogne-franche-comte.developpement-durable.gouv.fr\/IMG\/pdf\/rapport_cgdd_01_mobilite_bas_carbone_fevrier2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a report<\/a><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\"> sur la transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique et les mobilit\u00e9s bas-carbone publi\u00e9 par le Commissariat g\u00e9n\u00e9ral au d\u00e9veloppement durable (CGDD), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circulacar.com\/en\/packs-batteries-lfp-48-96-400v\/\">les batteries LFP <\/a>sont \u00e0 privil\u00e9gier pour les v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques en raison de leur dur\u00e9e de vie importante (environ 4000 cycles) et de leur impact environnemental moindre.
